This is your SolarWakeup for November 18th, 2013

This morning's Wakeup coming from the skies as I make my way to the Distributed Solar Summit in San Diego.  Speaking on a panel later today to discuss how PACE markets are changing the solar industry for the better.  While credit issues keep good solar projects from moving forward, financing innovation like Demeter's PACE3P products will help advance solar investment in commercial markets.  Stay tuned for more insight from this conference all week!

Future solar users in Arizona will be billed $5/month for net metering benefits.  APS was asking for $50-$100 per month and spent $10 for every $1 on the solar side.  This is a solar victory, we were able to mobilize; show the public and the commissioners that the APS proposal was wrong.  APS tried everything in and outside the known playbook to get their way.  Our industry will continue to be more sustainable with policy victories and increased revenues!

Today, the ACC is expected to decide the future of Arizona net metering policies.  Based on the facts coming from the case, my hope is that the decision is based on actuality which showcase the benefits created by net metered solar energy.  Solar is a vital part of the energy portfolio and the ACC will have to look into the future.  Consumers will benefit by their foresight and more solar in Arizona!

History repeating itself? Things are going well, at SPI and Powergen manufacturers are talking about a healthy backlog and some stability in pricing.  Hearing this makes me happy, it creates an industry outlook that spans more than a few weeks and allows everyone in the value chain to make sound business decisions.  Note to the cautious: keep pushing and taking those orders, set achievable expectations and build up your backlog.

Good causes come together sometimes, and it feels great to see it happen.  The White House honored CPF's Nat Kreamer, not only for his great work but also because he was a decorated veteran, a fact I was not aware of.  In fact, I really enjoy hearing about veterans coming back after serving our Country and coming to work in solar.  If you have the privilege of being in a position to hire, hire a veteran.

Solar should be on every school.  The NFL thinks every football fan captured by the age of 13 has a cumulative lifetime value of $200,000.  The same probably holds through for solar. NRDC and Mosaic recently rolled out solar on schools initiatives.  I have owned solaronschools.com for the past 5 years, and I look forward to use it for a good cause!
