The net metering discussions are a good reminder that utilities are in charge of rate schedules. The ability to translate the confusing (by design) energy values is crucial for a solar contractor looking to develop work. If you are talking to clients and can’t explain the time-of-use value of solar, then you are letting the utility take advantage of the rate design. Case in point: the poor guy in NY that can’t find value in his solar installation.
